From Crossing to Connecting.

simodairacoumuten is a project based on Shimodaira Construction, founded in 1953, that explores new business areas across materials, products, spaces, exhibitions and communication. Through two venues at OSAKA DESIGN WEEK 2026, we present experiments that draw out wood's inherent character and memories and connect them to new value. At OSAKA SALONE, we exhibit NEWLOOK, a product that frames the character of wood to create new ways of seeing it within a space. At OSAKA FUORISALONE, we introduce product development using timbers removed during renovation of Kiso no Ohashi, an iconic bridge in Nagano's Kiso region. Rather than erasing grain, marks, wear, time and regional character, we preserve them as the material's memory and connect them to new uses, people and places.
